“Sumida Meister”-certified craftsman Tomohiro Oishi hand paints “Edo characters” on lanterns, wooden tags, signboards and other items. This calligraphy of hand-painting characters and family crests originated in downtown Sumida during the Edo period, and has been passed down to the present day. Goods bearing these “Edo-moji” draw prosperity and good fortune to your home or business. Purchase them as gifts that will become cherished memories. They may be custom-ordered for a wedding or a birth, or as souvenirs to be sent to loved ones overseas.
Hands-on workshops may be booked for 2,200 - 4,400 yen, and a voice-translator may be arranged given prior notice.
